Xport 6.0

How to install Xport software.

Xport is a free download for current ITS customers. Install and use it on as many computers as you want—including your computer at home. All you’ll need is your username and password.

Download Xport for Windows

Install in three steps

  1. Download. Click Download Xport. The download starts automatically in your browser.
  2. Keep the file. If your browser shows a warning, choose to keep the file, then open it from the browser’s downloads list or your Downloads folder.
  3. Run it. Double-click Xport.Desktop-win-Setup.exe and Xport installs and opens automatically. Sign in with your ITS username and password.

Released September 2, 2026. New versions install automatically the next time you launch Xport.

We designed Xport to be easy to install and easy to use. You won’t have to run any software installers or enter any Administrator passwords. And when we release a new version, you’ll get the latest features automatically. It couldn’t be easier.

System requirements

Xport has one primary requirement:

We recommend regularly running Windows Update to get important bug fixes and security patches.

Microsoft ended support for Windows 8 and 8.1 in 2023, and Xport won’t install on those versions. Users report that a free upgrade to Windows 10 still works on a fully updated computer with a valid Windows license; Xport will install once upgraded.

Using a Mac? Run Windows and Xport within VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop.

Server connections

Computers running Xport need access to the following addresses. If your company whitelists URLs, please share these with your IT department:

  • https://smartclient.xport.ca
  • https://api.xport.ca
  • https://xport-prod.s3.amazonaws.com
  • https://xportfiles.blob.core.windows.net

Technical details

We use an MIT-licensed technology called Velopack to deploy and install Xport. This offers three main benefits:

  • Automatic updates. Updates are detected, downloaded and installed when you launch the program, so you’re always on the current version.
  • No admin rights. Xport installs per-user within your profile, so anyone can install it without contacting their IT department.
  • Sandboxed. Windows keeps Xport from interfering with any other programs on your computer.

Velopack applications are not officially supported by Microsoft in Citrix or Terminal Services environments. You’re free to try Xport in those configurations, but we’re unable to provide support or assistance there. We may provide additional installers for this scenario if requested.
